Who We Are
DELA Community Development Initiative (DCDI) is a registered Community Based Organization working with children and young people in Kitgum Municipality, Kitgum District, Northern Uganda.
DCDI promotes child and youth development through music, education, dance, poetry, and community engagement. Our programs help children build confidence, discipline, creativity, teamwork, and practical life skills.
Our work is rooted in the Acholi sub-region, where communities are still addressing the long-term effects of conflict including poverty, disrupted opportunity, and limited access to activities that support young people's growth. We work at the community level to create safe, inclusive spaces where children can learn, express themselves, and discover their abilities.

DELA Kids Choir
DELA Kids Choir is DCDI's flagship program. It gives children the chance to learn and perform music while building confidence, discipline, teamwork, and creativity. Through singing, dance, cultural activities, and age-appropriate mentorship, the choir gives children a positive space to grow and develop lasting skills.

Ochola Micheal
Founder & Director
Leads DCDI's overall vision, programs, and community partnerships, and works to advance children's development through music, education, and creativity.
Achayo Concy
Assistant Chairperson & Children's Welfare Coordinator
Oversees children's welfare and wellbeing during choir and community activities, helping maintain a safe and caring environment for every child.
Aneno Patricia
Treasurer
Manages DCDI's financial coordination and helps ensure organizational resources are used responsibly.
Adong Gloria
Choir Trainer & Life Skills Mentor
Trains children in singing, discipline, teamwork, and performance, and guides age-appropriate life-skills mentorship that builds confidence and responsible behavior.
Anena Sharon
Volunteer Traditional Dance Instructor
Teaches traditional dance and cultural performance, helping children build teamwork, creativity, and appreciation for Acholi cultural heritage.

Our Story
DCDI began as a small effort to bring children together through music, dance, and poetry, and has since grown into a community-based initiative for child and youth development. We continue to grow step by step, we listen to community needs and building programs around the strengths and interests of the children we serve. Our approach is practical: we start with what's available, work alongside community members, and build opportunities gradually and responsibly.

DCDI works primarily with children and young people in Kitgum Municipality and surrounding communities in Kitgum District, helping them:
